Birthday
It was Honey’s birthday aka The Man, my husband. We went on a joy ride to Bridgehampton. Ordered take out for lunch. The server brought the food to our car wearing a mask and gloves. We drove to the beach and parked. We pulled napkins out of the glove compartment to lay on our laps. We purelled our hands as we opened each plastic container. We sat in the car, windows sealed and watched the waves roll by eating truffled chicken sandwiches on crusty bread. Such joy. The winds were 27 miles per hour, almost hurricane strength. There were white caps on the puddles on the road. We could feel the wind blowing our car as we drove back across Ponquogue bridge down Dune road.
We also called our friends with the Coronavirus in New York City. Their 14-year old son had a ton of GI issues and then lost his sense of taste and smell. The husband had no symptoms and tested positive. The wife has a dry cough. Apparently the son has recovered fully!! C, the wife, said the weirdest thing about living in NYC right now. There is no traffic save for the fire trucks and ambulances. You could lie down on Park Avenue without getting hit by a car. There is no traffic noise except for the wail of sirens all day and night. Our police friend, Christine, said the fire department is in charge of pulling dead bodies from homes and there are too many calls (in the 1000s). Police and firefighters cannot respond to all of them. I believe the number of those sick with Corona is 10x and the death rate is probably 10x than what’s being reported.
I made an Easter 🐣 of things I’m grateful for:
1. I have taught my children how to scrub toilets 🚽 and do laundry in our very own home school.
2. Our three children actually cooked dinner one night without blowing up the house.
3. Stephen can pack a dishwasher with Tetris like precision.
4. I love Martha Stewart’s meal delivery service called Marley Spoon. Kids like the meals. They are not hard to cook. The boxes come with recipe cards. And, Stephen accidentally threw out the freezer bag with all the meat in it. We managed to retrieve it by the trash can before the garbage was picked up. The meat was still frozen and so well sealed the animals hadn’t touched the bag!
5. I’ve been playing a lot of Mah Jongg online!
6. Stephen has a way with the grill.
7. I haven’t gotten up once with the children for remote learning. I have loved sleeping in.
8. Grateful for every single UPS driver, FedEx driver and cashier!
9. I’m going to try to get a monopoly game going today. My family doesn’t like board games as much as I do!
10. I added two roombas named Rocky and Apollo to our family. I love to hear them buzz around in the morning.
